Breaking the Mold

Here are two little paintings I did in studio class lately. I attempted to break my habit of being an intense itemizer. And, well, here's the results....

  1. These little gems show a sense of movement and speed aswell as an immediacy of the moment. They are exercises in making split-second decisions on what is really important and essential in a picture. You are painting the SHAPES of color, not THINGS.(details are just smaller shapes) Putting down a bold stroke forces you to make definate decisions. If you look to long ,your perceptions change. That bols simple stroke looks right because you made a decision and stuck with it.You hallenged yoursel to take a risk and experienced a real breakthrough. "All paintings are lessons for the next one."
